Proclaiming May 7 - 13, 2023 as Public Service Recognition Week to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees, and members of the uniformed services.
There will be a 30-Day Public Comment Period related to the proposed Cherokee Area Transportation System (CATS) Fare Structure from May 2, 2023, to June 4, 2023. The proposed changes to the fare structure are posted on the county's website under 'CATS Transportation'. For more information, you can call CATS directly at 770-345-6238.
Cherokee Recreation & Parks is hosting the first Public Input Meeting on Thursday, May 18th at 6:30pm at The Hickory Flat Gym. The meeting is open to the public to provide input into the master planning phase of the newly acquired 40-acre park property located at 3552 East Cherokee Drive, Canton, GA 30115. The architectural firm, Lose Design, will conduct the meeting including hands-on activities in which the citizens will be able to discuss and select amenities that are of interest to them for this park location. This public engagement along with other concept development strategies will help drive the direction of this park for the Hickory Flat Community.
Consider the reappointment of Randy Gravley to the Cherokee County Libraries Board of Trustees for a new three-year term beginning July 1, 2023 and ending on June 30, 2026 as recommended by the Executive Director of the Sequoyah Regional Library System.
Consider the reappointment of Nate Sullivan to the Region 1 EMS Board for a new three-year term beginning July 1, 2023 and ending on June 30, 2026.
Consider approval of Work Session, Executive Session and Regular Meeting minutes from April 18, 2023.

Consider request for rezoning of 11.1 +/- acres from R-40 to LI at 624 North Rope Mill Road; requests concurrent variances to Article 27, Section 27.15, Technology Ridge Tree Buffer Zone to reduce the required 75-foot minimum buffer to 25-feet; Article 10, Table 10.1, Minimum Buffer Width Between Abutting Districts to reduce a 50-foot zoning buffer adjacent to R-40 zoned property to 10-feet; Article 27, Appendix C, Site Density Requirements, to allow 100% credit in the stream and zoning buffers to count towards site density; Cherokee County Standard Detail 210 - Non-Residential Driveway to remove the required deceleration lane. Planning Commission voted to recommend denial of the applicant's request.
Consider request for a Special Use Permit to allow the development of a place of worship on Pea Ridge Road. Applicant also requests concurrent variances to Section 7.7-18(a)(1)(b) to allow a place of worship to have primary access from a local road; Section 7.7-18(a)(2) to allow the aggregate square footage of all buildings on the property to be greater than 10,000 square feet; Section 7.7-18(a)(5) to allow the 30-foot buffer to be disturbed and replanted where needed; and Section 7.7-18(c)(1) to allow for a multi-use sports field as an accessory use to the place of worship. Planning Commission voted to recommend denial of the applicant's request.
Consider request for rezoning of 37.39 +/- acres from AG to R-20 for a Conservation Subdivision at 2861, 3013, 2855 Sixes Road and 400 and 655 Hillhouse Lane. The applicant also requests five concurrent variances to allow the development to be a gated community with private streets and to the conservation design ordinance regarding setbacks, average lot size, and buffer requirements. A public hearing was conducted on April 4, 2023 and the recommendations from the Planning Commission are outlined in detail below.
